  • Point 1: The Government of Canada has promised to re-engage with Iran and reestablish diplomatic relations. Bill S-219 will block the path of reengagement with Iran. Representatives of Global Affairs Canada are on record saying that this bill would block the path of reengagement with Iran.
  • Point 2: Iranian-Canadians have been harmed by the previous government’s policy of disengagement from Iran, particularly by depriving them/us from accessing consular services from embassies in Ottawa and Tehran, and Bill S-219 continues this harmful policy.
  • Point 3: This policy also prevents Canadian businesses from benefiting from entrance into Iran’s dynamic and growing economy.
  • Point 4: Bill S-219 also harms Canada’s international standing by preventing our country from having any influence with one of the principle players in the Middle East region, Iran.

For these reasons, I ask you to vote against this bill and allow the government to fulfil its promise of re-engaging with Iran.

Remember to thank them for their time!
