Earlier this week, news outlets reported that, after months of ripping up the Iran Deal and imposing crippling sanctions on Iran, the Trump administration is threatening a military strike against Iran. In response, the Canadian government has only stayed silent. Canada’s allies, including EU partners, Japan, and Switzerland have all tried to help de-escalate the tensions in the region, but Canada, a leading member of NATO with a military presence in the region, a member of the G7, and a country that has plans to run for a sit on the United Nations Security Council, has not said anything in order to prevent another catastrophic war in the Middle East. In fact, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau even stated the other day that he is “concerned with the escalation by Iran”!
Furthermore, at a time when our focus should be on preventing war, some MPs, including Liberal MPs, have sided with Trump supporters and called for additional sanctions on Iran!
Obviously, this is concerning to many Canadians, and especially Iranian-Canadians. Canada should stand up for peace and diplomacy – not fall in line with Trump and his warmongering policy.
That is why we're asking you to use this tool to call your MPs and tell them that you oppose war with Iran. Many of you have participated in our email campaigns before. This time we need to make sure Canadian parliamentarians hear our voice. That is why we are asking you to call their offices.
Canada must not only condemn the Trump administration's push for war and try to de-escalate tensions in the region through diplomacy – we must also work with our European allies to support the Iran deal and ensure that Iranian civilians are protected from Trump's crippling sanctions.
